Accountants who understand MRR, deferred revenue and what investors want to see

For software companies, IT consultancies, agencies and founders raising their first round. Board ready numbers, monthly, without a finance hire.

What makes tech different

Subscription income, development spend and overseas customers

Subscription income has to be recognised over the period it covers, not when the card is charged, which changes both your reported profit and your Corporation Tax. Get it wrong and your accounts overstate a good month and understate the next one.

Development spend may qualify for research and development relief, but only where the records and the technical narrative stand up to HMRC's current level of scrutiny. Customers in other countries bring place of supply rules and sometimes overseas VAT registrations. And investors expect SEIS or EIS assurance, a clean cap table and monthly numbers they can rely on.

Who we act for

Every kind of tech business

SaaS and subscription

Recurring revenue, churn, deferred income and the metrics an investor asks for before the numbers themselves.

IT consultancies and agencies

Project based work, contractor teams and time based billing.

Funded start ups

SEIS and EIS assurance, investor reporting and a finance stack that scales past the first round.

App and platform businesses

Stripe, Paddle and app store payouts reconciled to revenue rather than to the bank.

What we handle

Built for software businesses

Revenue recognition and deferred income under FRS 102, so a twelve month contract is spread over twelve months. Stripe, Paddle and app store reconciliations, where the payout is net of fees, refunds and currency conversion.

Research and development record keeping prepared to support a claim, working with a specialist on the technical report where one is needed. SEIS and EIS advance assurance and compliance statements. EMI and other share option schemes documented properly.

Software as a service VAT, including sales to consumers in the EU and elsewhere. Investor reporting and management accounts with monthly recurring revenue, churn and runway alongside the statutory figures. Contractor and IR35 compliance for teams built from freelancers.

Packages

  • Company Growth £179 a month
  • Company Premium £299 a month
  • Virtual Finance Department from £450 a month
  • R&D and SEIS work quoted as a fixed fee, never a percentage

R&D claims are under real scrutiny

HMRC has significantly increased enquiries into research and development claims. Contemporaneous records of the technical uncertainty and the time spent on it matter more than the claim narrative written afterwards. We build those records as you go.

Questions

Frequently asked

How should I recognise annual subscriptions?

Over the period of the subscription. Cash received up front sits on the balance sheet as deferred income and releases to revenue month by month. It matters for your accounts, your Corporation Tax and any investor conversation.

Can you help with SEIS and EIS?

Yes. We prepare the advance assurance application, keep the records the scheme requires and prepare the compliance statements after the shares are issued.

Do I need to register for VAT abroad?

It depends where your customers are and whether they are businesses or consumers. Selling digital services to consumers in the EU usually means registering for the one stop shop rather than in each country.

What is a reasonable finance stack for a start up?

Xero or QuickBooks, a receipt capture tool, a payment reconciliation tool for Stripe, and payroll. Anything more is usually premature until you have a team.

Do you provide board packs?

Yes, in Company Premium and the Virtual Finance Department. Management accounts with commentary, MRR, churn, cash and runway, delivered on a schedule your board can plan around.
