Spend your time on the work, not the tax

Bookkeeping, Self Assessment and Making Tax Digital for a flat monthly fee, with straight advice on whether a limited company would leave you better off. From £39 a month.

What makes freelancing different

Irregular income, mixed expenses and lumpy tax bills

Income arrives when clients pay rather than when you invoice, expenses are personal and business mixed, and tax bills land twice a year in amounts that are easy to forget about until January.

Making Tax Digital now adds quarterly reporting for anyone over the threshold. Contractors working for larger clients face IR35 decisions made by the client, and those working through their own company need to understand what off payroll working means for their take home pay.

Who we act for

Every kind of freelancing business

Consultants and creatives

Designers, writers, developers, coaches and consultants invoicing a handful of clients directly.

Trades and CIS subcontractors

Where tax is deducted at source and has to be reclaimed, often producing a repayment each year.

Personal service companies

Contractors working through their own limited company, with IR35 status understood before the contract is signed.

Side businesses

People with a job and a growing sideline, where the trading allowance, the tax code and payments on account all interact.

What we handle

Everything a one person business needs

Sole trader bookkeeping with an app based receipt capture, so expenses are logged when they happen rather than reconstructed in January. Self Assessment preparation with payments on account explained and planned for.

Making Tax Digital quarterly updates and the final declaration. Allowable expenses claimed properly, including home working, travel, equipment, training and the flat rate alternatives where they are better.

A sole trader versus limited company comparison at your actual income level, formation when the answer is a company, IR35 and off payroll advice, CIS returns for construction subcontractors, and VAT registration when you cross £90,000.

Packages

  • Sole Trader Essentials £39 a month
  • Sole Trader Plus £69 a month
  • MTD Ready £29 a month
  • Company Core £99 a month if you incorporate

Set money aside as you go

The most common problem we fix is a January tax bill that arrives with payments on account attached, effectively one and a half years of tax at once. We give you a running estimate of what to set aside so the bill is already funded.

Questions

Frequently asked

Should I go limited?

It depends on your profit, whether you need the money personally, and whether your clients care. As a rough guide the tax saving starts to outweigh the extra admin somewhere above £40,000 to £50,000 of profit, but the answer is specific to you and we will run the numbers.

What expenses can I claim?

Anything wholly and exclusively for the business: equipment, software, travel to temporary workplaces, professional subscriptions, insurance, a proportion of home costs and training that maintains your existing skills. We check the marginal ones rather than guessing.

What are payments on account?

Advance payments towards next year's tax, each half of this year's bill, due on 31 January and 31 July. They catch out almost every first year sole trader because the January payment is effectively 150% of the tax due.

Does IR35 affect me?

If you work through a limited company for medium or large clients, the client decides your status and may deduct tax at source. If you are a sole trader, IR35 does not apply, but employment status still can.

When does Making Tax Digital start for me?

It depends on your gross turnover plus any rental income. Over £50,000 you are already in; £30,000 from April 2027 and £20,000 from April 2028. Use the checker for your exact date.
