Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need payroll if I am the only director?

If you take a salary, yes. Most directors do, because a salary up to the National Insurance threshold is deductible for Corporation Tax and keeps your state pension record intact.

What is the Employment Allowance?

A reduction of up to £10,500 a year in employer National Insurance for eligible employers. Companies where the only employee is a director paid above the threshold do not qualify. We check and claim it where you can.

Can you take over from another provider mid year?

Yes. We need the year to date figures from your previous payroll and can be running by your next pay date.

How do staff get their payslips?

Through a secure portal they log into, or by password protected email if you prefer. Payslips are never sent as plain attachments.

What about the 15% employer National Insurance rate?

Employer National Insurance is 15% on earnings above £5,000 a year. It has made the Employment Allowance and the optimum director salary worth reviewing, which we do every April.
